FAQ What is the Moon Mars Working Group? What is SGAC? How are Moon Mars Working Group and SGAC affiliated? What is the schedule of 2004 Moon Mars Working Group events? 1-8 October, 2004 - Presentation and Planning Conference in conjunction with the Space Generation Congress and the IAC Convention
in Vancouver Canada 1-9 April, 2005 - Habitat Design Workshop organized by Moon Mars Working Group, funded and hosted by the European Space Agency at the
European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk Who should participate in Moon Mars Working Group events? For some events, delegate participation is limited to the 18-35 age range but, we always need organizers, experts, speakers
and advisors willing to contribute a little time to help strengthen the future. So there is a place for all age groups in the
Moon Mars Working Group. Will I get authorship for the papers I work on? What should I bring to Moon Mars Working Group? This sounds interesting, but why should I participate?
The MoonMars workshop was a recommendation from the Space Generation Summit (SGS) held at the World Space Congress in
Houston in 2002. The Space Exploration workgroups from SGS decided that it is very important to look at current moon
and mars exploration plans and to highlight their commonalities; to show how developments for one benefits the other. One roadmap
is needed for MOONMARS exploration, and this should accelerate our pace in exploration and colonization of our near solar system.
As part of UNISPACE III, alumni of the International Space University organized and convened the Space Generation Forum
(SGF). The aim of the forum was to express the visions and perspectives of youth with regards to future space activities.
This evolved to include a youth input into the deliberations of the UN at UNISPACE, and was charged to make recommendations
to the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. Over 160 young people from 60 countries attended the forum, which
ran parallel to the UNISPACE III proceedings. Of the ten recommendations from the SGF technical report that were accepted by the UN,
five were integrated into the Vienna Declaration.
Moon Mars Working Group is a spin-off from the SGAC that concentrates specifically on Moon/Mars initiatives from an academic, technological
and implementation standpoint. We are an autonomous group, however our strong ties with SGAC remain and are reinforced during our collocation
at the International Astronautical Congress each year.
28 August-3rd September, 2004 - Working Conference at ESTEC including facility tours.
As part of SGAC, the Moon Mars Working Group is a predominantly youth oriented activity (with a broad view of 'youth') for those connected with or
interested in the future of mankind on the Moon and Mars. Experts of all ages are also welcome and encouraged to help
as advisers. Undergraduate/graduate students and young professionals from all disciplines (not just science or engineering related)
are encouraged to attend. Other disciplines could include geology, astronomy, public administration, business, international
relations, psychology, philosophy, law, chemistry, computers, robotics, etc.)
Yes. Full Co-Author credit will be given for those that provide substantive input.
Yourself, your ideas, your enthusiasm, your personal rocket (if applicable), relevant reference material, a computer is very helpful,
US/Europe power conversion if needed, an alarm clock, an open mind.
This is an opportunity to mix ideas and collaborate professionally with other students, graduate students and young professionals
from around the world under the supervision of top experts in the space arena. It is a chance to have your ideas be heard
and have semi-direct influence over the future of mankind in space.
